Location Visit Sheet

Here are the planning documents from when we was deciding where the best place to shoot would be.

The park will be a good choice to films at, this is because the specific location that we want to film at is very much away from open areas, as it is on top of a hill surrounded by trees, it feels very isolated as if you are trapped in especially with the amount of people we will have on the day in the area, it will feel tightly pact in, this will help give of the feel we want to the audience as the actors should feel it themselves, it will work a lot better than if we was to use an open space because there would be a lot of things the audience could see, by having it in this secluded area, the audience should feel a lot more confined.

The Types of Briefs

Here are the types of briefs that people can be assigned, below I have explained each type and their purpose

Health and Safety

Below is a sheet we had to fill in to take into account the health and safety issues we may face whilst going out to film.

Storyboards

During the story boarding we decided to use these particular shots as we felt it would give the audience a clear understanding of the play as it would clearly establish the two sides and also the main characters within the play, for example we often use close ups of the main character Titus as he has a lot of lines in this scene so this establishes who the speaker is. Tamora in the play is also going through a painful scene as her son is about to be killed as the father wants revenge for his fallen sons in the war, we use close ups and high angle shots of Tamora as we want her to look weak and sad to give of the sympathetic effect to the audience. Another way we wanted to establish the power balance in this scene is through using low angles shots of Titus, by doing we was able to make him look like the most powerful person in the room and also make him look like he is in command of everybody in the room. In the scene the dead bodies of the fallen are brought into by the Romans, to show them as weak. We also use a pan at the start when the characters are coming into the tomb, we do this so that it can help establish the area so that the audience can get a good feel of the room and so it sets the right atmosphere for the audience, also by using this pan it helps show other characters in the tomb so it helps establish who these characters are early on. A long shot is also used on the captured sons to show them in chains, this is simply so that it shows them as weak and small as they are showed clearly on their knees about to be killed and the guard towering over them.

Summary of Market Research

Here I have gathered information on album sale figures, and also individual songs and how they were received by the public through the like and dislike system on YouTube. By looking at this, you can see that pop and electronic dance songs and videos are often quite successful. Rap and Rock music doesn't seem to be a favorite by the public at this moment in time, and the market for a pop and electronic dance videos is much larger. The best place to put a music video would be on YouTube, it seems from looking at viewing figures, not many people watch music channels anymore, instead the majority of people will go to YouTube to watch or listen to a music video. This is because the web is a lot wider now, and people can easily view YouTube on their Android phones through the App. This is more convenient for people and can let them watch anything they want whenever, compared to a TV station which you have to wait and don't have a clear indication to when a song will be played. It is important to do this research to learn what platform it is best to put my music video so that it gains the most views, I would rather put the video on YouTube, as with the growth of the internet onto mobile devices along with PC's, I can have a bigger audience, also people find it better to watch a video on YouTube as they don't have to wait. YouTube also generates ad revenue from its ads before the break, so if millions were to watch it, the money generated would make up for the loss in TV revenue.

Video Footage Review

Camera One

We must re-shoot the scene at the start when Georgia and the actor who plays Titus are saying their speech and drag of the prisoner, we feel this because as a group less effect was given off by the actors despite the good acting, I feel we need shot reverse shots and low angle shots when Georgia looks down at the prisoners as it will help give of a better effect to the audience and also be more convincing as if they are actual prisoners about to be killed by the Romans.

Another shot that has to be re-shot is when the actors are coming up the hill, this is because on the day we did not have access to the fig rig and because of this t=we could not get the shots we had planned as a group, with the fig rig I want to get a lot more close ups of the army walking up the hill and also have some tracking shots with them walking as it will make them seem as a stronger and larger force if we show them more in unison walking together carrying their weapons.

Another shot that we should re-shoot is when Abby is being dragged down the hill by the two guards, this looked good however I feel that when she is dragged of the actors walked out of the shot too fast and this made it seem less effective, onto of this when they are being taken down the hill I feel that from another angle it would look a lot better than the current ones we have, I feel that instead we could do a pan of her being dragged to the hill and then cutting it to the other camera to see them walking down the hill.

Second Camera

Some shots I think we should add in which we kind of got from the second camera but not to a full extent are more close ups of the people treading through the mud, also I feel that we need some close ups of the prisoners tied up along with more facial reactions of the guards.

I feel when they are the bottom of the hill returning from the war we need to add in a lot more shots from different angles to create a bigger presence and make them look a lot more intimidating, this can be done through using some close ups on the fig rig whilst tracking backwards as they walk, some low angle shots to have the towering over the camera and looking powerful and also some close up of of their feet walking past the camera to make it seem as if a lot of people are walking by.

Review of Titus Andronicus

When watching Titus Andronicus on stage at the Royal Shakespeare Company all my expectations were met, I thought it was a fantastic piece of drama which has gave me plenty ideas of what I would like to do for my segment I have to recreate on Monday, I thought that the start of the play was very good and it met what I expected, it is a very intense play with lots of death and betrayal, at times the play did become hard to understand however as the story progressed the bits I did not understand came to light and my questions were answered. I felt thought that later on in the play when Titus was meant to be crazy he was slightly over played, by this I mean he was meant to pretending to be crazy yet he came across as if he had completely lost it and the maid dress he was wearing added to this and because it was over played it became less believable , however the acting of other characters was to a very high standard and if my group performs anything like the across in the play which I feel they can do the piece I have to film will be of a very high standard.

This has influenced my decisions  that I will make as a director , as I have learned about the positioning of the characters, how they will appear on set and move within the shot, also I have learned from watching this about the type of energy I need my actors to give of for the performance.

We will be using a slightly edited script from the one that was used in this performance, the language will remain the same, however to fit it all into one piece, we shall be cutting out part of the scene. Seeing this live performance has gave me an insight in how this new shot should be presented, in order to capture the Shakespearean style.
