Proposal Planning

This document is to specify what it is that I am creating, it will specify what needs to be done and the type of product I am creating. I will use this document to make sure I keep to my initial ideas, and continue the same style of work throughout the piece. This is helpful as by specifying what I am going to do, I can then target my audience, and also get an idea of what I am going to do for my selected piece.

Storyboard Planning

This document is needed for knowing what the shot will look like, for example, it needs to show what shot type will be used, the length of the shot, what is happening and how long it is on screen. I will use these storyboards to plan the order of the shots, and to create a rough draft of how the video will progress, as the video progresses. These are very helpful as it gives me a visual idea of what I need to shoot, and how the shot will be shown to the audience, which will leave more time for filming on the day, and cut down any delays on the day for filming.

Shooting Schedule Planning

The shooting schedule document is is to make a list of all of the days I will be filming, what I will be filming, and where it will take place, I will use this document to stay on track with my plan and to finish on my set deadline. This is helpful as it allows my to shoot more efficiently as I will know what it is that I will be filming each sessions, and also I can plan the travelling to the location and keep track of what is left to film.

List of props/costumes/make up

For this sheet, I have listed all of the props and costumes I will need for each day of the filming session, I will use the props to help dress the scene, and to also have the right costume depending on what stage of the music video I am filming, for example I may be wearing a blazer for the performance, but during the narrative I may wear casual clothing, this planning document will tell me what I will be wearing. It's helpful to know what equipment I will require on the day so that I so I will be able to target the correct audience with the mise en scene, and can shoot what I need on the day without any issues occurring.

Location Visit Details Planning

This is a document that I have created to plan the locations I will need to shoot at, I have used these documents to keep track of all the locations I plan to use, and also choose what specific area I will use and what will be done there, using pictures to help me visualise the location, so I can plan out what will happen there. These are extremely helpful, as it means I will know what location I will be shooting at along with what I will need at each of these locations. By having pictures of the location too, it will give me a visual idea of how I will have the shot cut between one another, along with were I will put the performer and how I will dress the scene.

Casting Decisions Planning

This is a is a document that will state the roles that are needed for my music video, and who will be occupying each of these roles that are required. I will use the casting decisions sheet to decide who is going to be doing what role on the day, to ensure that everything remains ons schedule. This is a helpful document as is will allow me to easily assign roles needed for the production to people in the group. It is efficient to do this as the people involved will know what they are doing, and be prepared to perform on the day.

Risk Assessment Planning

This is a document that I will use to plan out any possible situation which may be dangerous, the sheet will contain possible situations and solutions to address the incident if it does occur. I will use this planning document when I am on set, to make sure that the correct safety measures are taken, and to ensure that aid is nearby, in case an incident does occur. This sheet is helpful as it will give me a solutions to address any issues that may arise during shooting, and make sure that no one is harmed in the process of shooting.

Decision Making Process

When making decisions for my final ident idea, I had to consider how I would achieve it, I couldn't pick an ident that wouldn't present the way I wanted, it had to be humerus to the audience, and something that would bring shock and awe, because of this, I have decided to go with the idea of using play dough, like Comedy Central idents, this too is meant to be anti establishment, to show this, I am using the idea of two characters, that turn up to a posh dinner party and cause chaos at the event. I will also have techno music in the background which will give and extra buzz to the audience. The ident is intended to be humorous for the audience so the characters I use will have to be able to capture the audiences imagination, this is why I have chosen to use play dough, as it is meant to bring back the nostalgic feeling from when they was a child, and then be able to enjoy the product I have created in a humorous manner.

Importance of Design Elements

When creating an ident, it is important that all of the design elements are correct, in order to appeal to your targeted audience.
This can be seen with the ident Comedy Central uses, it has a very strong visual interpretation, in the ident, we see the Comedy Central logo smash into Big Ben, an iconic landmark in England, the aim of this ident is too show that it is anti establishment, this meaning that it will offer the audience shows that would be frowned upon by the upper classes as society as they come from posh backgrounds and go to places like Eton. It is important to have a strong visual design as the ident has to set the theme early on, the ident tells the audience what they channel is about and what it has to offer, from seeing this, the audience know they can expect shows that are not sophisticated, but funny and relaxing to watch.

However this ident offers the audience something much different, unlike the previous ident we saw, which was big in scale for what was happening, this one has a more relaxing tone to it, from seeing it, we know we are watching a nature channel and could possibly go as far and say this is a particular ident for a show in Antarctica. The ident uses a low key lighting with a blue hue, this gives off a cold but peaceful vibe as we see snow about and a man in snow gear.

This shows the importance of design elements, you have to set the mood early on for the audience, so that they know what they will expect, and can decide whether to keep watching or turn over.

Audience Research Vox Pop

For this research, I conducted vox poxs on individual people, this was to identify what types of genre that they preferred, and the types of things they would expect from from a pop video, by doing this research, I could gain an insight into what my audience want to see from a pop video, and also learn of some of the conventions I should be following in order to meet their expectations. From this research I learned how popular the pop genre was among teenagers, and how often one might listen to the genre.

Focus Group Audience Research

Here is the focus group on my audience research. This research was done in order to understand the methods in which people access their music videos, it also prompted a discussion between the people which allowed me to get a better insight as to what they thought, from doing this also, I was able to see what these people expect to see in a pop genre. This was useful as it meant by doing this research, I could use this information when constructing my research.

Power Point Presentation

Here is my Presentation of Research

Note Cards for Presentation of Research

Here are my note cards I shall be using when presenting my Presentation of Research.

Audience Research Questionnaire

Here are some of the results I received for my questionnaires. I performed these questionnaires so that I would be able to see how popular the pop genre was, and also see what the people I asked, expected to see from the genre, this was helpful as it gave me a better insight into understanding what conventions I needed to follow and to also know what I should include in my music product to reach its target audience.

Analysis of Feedback

Here I have analysed the feedback that I received from the people who have watched my music video.

From this focus group I learned that overall, people enjoyed my music video that I created, however people did have difficulty in understanding the narrative of the music video.

The music video I feel managed to appal to the audience I was aiming at, however I do not feel it met its aims fully, the narrative at times seem to be lacking in quality and meaning at time, and although the performance was in a pop style, it still could have benefited from additional aspects, a wider use of camera shots and possibly even more cut aways could have improved the overall quality of my product

Music Video First Draft

Here is my first music video draft.

Location Visit Sheet

The purpose of creating a location visit sheet, was to establish earl on where I would be filming, this was so that I would know if it was possibly to film at this location, and work out if there would be any difficulties accessing it when it came to filming. From doing this research I learnt that it would be doable to use this location to film, by filming at school, I could have easy access to the green screen, and would also save time traveling as the equipment was already here, also if I would require and additional help, I had people around who would be able to.

Conventions of Music Videos Market Research

Here I have looked at the different kinds of conventions that different genres have to follow, this was done so that I become more aware of what I need to follow when I begin production of my music video, by understanding the conventions of these genres, I can effectively work towards preparations for my product. Below shows my results for what I found when looking at these genres.

Market Research

To conduct this research, I looked at various sites such as the BBC and Wikipedia, I did this as I wanted to see just how popular the pop genre was,  by doing this research, I learned that pop songs were most often at the top of the charts and selling the most copies on songs. This was important to do as I had to find out if there was a wide market for the song I was planning to create. By doing this market research, I discovered that the pop genre is at the top of the charts for the majority of the time, but also it is growing in popularity.
